7 Things to Remember
- Use a steel measuring tape, a quality tape will not bend and thus provides accuracy.
- Measure in inches, rounding to the nearest .1 inch.
- Always specify width first and then height to avoid confusion.
- Specify whether the curtain is an inside mount (inside the frame of the window) or an outside mount (outside the frame of the window).
- Even though they may appear to all be the same height and width, measure all windows.
- Be sure to make note of any posible obstructions to operation such as handles, wood frames, railings, etc.
- For purposes of happiness with your product, keep in mind stacking height. Roman Shades and Wood Blinds tend to stack at the top of the window when raised, while roller shades virtually disappear.
When you have determined whether your blinds will be inside or outside mount, follow these instructions:
For Inside Mounts:
Do not worry about deductions or any adjustments, we will make these if you note that the curtain is an inside mount in the order form, making sure the curtains fit perfectly.
Simply measure the width and the height from surface to surface in 3 separate positions. Note the smallest measurement.
For Outside Mounts
These are the measurements you must submit if you wish the curtain to hang outside the frame of your window. We will make your curtain exactly as you submit it
- Measure the width exactly as you would like your curtain to be.
- Measure the height exactly as you would like it to be.
Note that it is recommended to add 4" to 6" to the width and up to 5" to the height beyond the frame of your window for aesthetic and light filtration purposes. Add these inches in to your measurement, always keeping in mind possible obstructions.
Minimizing Light Filtration
Remember that all blind and curtain production is bracket to bracket, and not by actual fabric width. All curtains have a slight deduction at their width, from an eighth of an inch for a wood blnd to a full three quarters of an inch for a roller. It is thus recommended that if there are two blinds meeting each other, that they meet at the aluminum or wood frame of your window to prevent light filtration.
